Green River: Goblin Valley State Park

The park where the space-scenes were shot was originally called Mushroom Valley by a ferry operator in the 1920s. In 1964 it was acquired by the state of Utah and named Goblin Valley State Park after the rock formations found there. The sandstone in the park is of uneven hardness, allowing erosion of varying degrees throughout the rocks. This creates odd rock formations that to some resemble goblins. For visitors, the park offers hiking trails, camping sites, restrooms, and group shelters.
