Cold Mountain (2003) – Charleston

Charleston: The town square where Inmam talks with the blind man is at the College of Charleston at 66 George St.

 

Deliverance (1972) – Oconee County (Lake Jocasee)

 

Forrest Gump (1994) - Hunting Island, Hampton County, Walterboro, Port Royal, Colleton County

Hunting Island: The Vietnam war scenes were shot near the marshwalk at the state park.
Beaufort: The front of the University of South Carolina at Beaufort's Performing Arts Center was depicted as the Gump Medical Center that Forrest Gump endowed in the movie. It is located at 801 Carteret Street in downtown Beaufort. It was also used as the college campus in Something to Talk About. Two nearby bridges on US Highway 21 were utilized during Forrest Gump's transcontinental run. One is the Woods Memorial Bridge in downtown and the other is the Chowan Creek bridge between Lady's Island and St. Helena Island. Bubba's family home shots were filmed at an existing house on Alston Road near Lucy Point Creek. An actual gospel group, the Hallelujah Singers, were featured in the church scene.
Port Royal: The hurricane was simulated on the South Carolina Port Authority docking facility. However, this is a restricted access facility.
Colleton County: The Gump's house was completely built from scratch on private property. However, it was not built to code and thus had to be demolished after filming was over. The old oak tree in the film was on the same property.
Walterboro: The school scenes for Forrest as a child were filmed at Hampton Elementary School. A Walterboro resident's antique cars were also featured.

The Legend of Bagger Vance (1999) – Blufton, Kiawah Island

Blufton: The Pete Dye Course at the Colleton River Plantation was used.
Kiawah Island: The Ocean Course served as the basis for the final 18th hole of the final match. The 18th hole on this course was not used however as the production team constructed an entirely new hole on the grounds which lent more to the storyline and filming.

 

North & South (1985) [TV] - Charleston, Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant: Filming took place at Boone Hall Plantation located at 1235 Long Point Road for this miniseries as well as the sequel, 'Book II'.

Charleston: The US Custom House and the Battery were used

The Patriot (2000) – Jackson, Moncks Corner [Image 1] [Image 2] [Image 3]

Moncks Corner: The swamp scenes were shot in "Cypress Gardens", a park owned by the local government. The church was constucted on site. Cypress Gardens features a 2500 square foot butterfly house, reptile center, 24000 gallon aquarium, nature trails, and facility rentals.

Queen (1993) [TV] - Charleston, Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant: Boone Hall Plantation at 1235 Long Point Road.

This miniseries was Halle Berry's first big role, and helped her to attain the status she has today.

 

Radio (2003) – Anderson, Walterboro [Image]

Anderson: The football stadium shots were done in Anderson at TL Hanna High School located at 2600 N Highway 81. Anderson housed the first cotton gin in the world to be operated by electricity, which occurred in 1897. Every year Anderson hosts “Freedom Weekend Aloft” on Memorial Day weekend. It is the second largest hot air balloon festival in the U.S. The ‘older downtown’ shots were filmed in Walterboro.

 

Rules of Engagement (2000) – Beaufort

Beaufort: Outside of the city at Hunting Island State Park numerous "Vietnam" scenes were filmed. The southern end of the park doubled for Quang Tri Province. Local residents were casted as troops. To make it realistic, they were not allowed to shave or bathe for the duration of the filming. They also had to contend with the elements with typical military gear used during the war. Dale Dye, a retired Marine captain, trained the film's extras on the island. He also worked with Tom Hanks in Saving Private Ryan.
