Forrest Gump (1994) - Savannah Savannah: Throughout the movie, Forrest sits on a bench telling his stories to the other people waiting on a bus. These scenes were shot on the north side of Chippewa Square on Bull Street. Don’t expect to find the bench there though. It has since been relocated to the Savannah Visitor Center. The square was laid out in 1815 and was named after a famous battle in the War of 1812. The statue in the middle of the square is of General James Ogelthorpe, who founded the colony of Georgia in 1733. He faces south towards Georgia’s old enemy, the Spanish, who formerly occupied Florida. Daily tours begin in Chippewa Square that focus on Savannah’s role in the Civil War. Information: 303 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Cost: $4.00 - Adults At the beginning of the movie, a feather is shown floating in the wind by a church spiral. This is the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist. Construction was begun in 1835 and it now serves as the seat of the Diocese of Savannah. Most of the church was destroyed by a fire in 1898, but was rebuilt and rededicated two years later.

Glory (1989) - Jekyll Island, Savannah Jekyll Island: The fort was constructed on the south end of the island on the beach. Care was taken during its construction to not endanger the local habitat. It was removed after filming. The beach is open to the public. The cast were housed at the Jekyll Island Club during their stay.
The Legend of Bagger Vance (1999) – Jekyll Island, Savannah Jekyll Island: Many of the scenes were shot at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel on Jekyll Island. The restaurant, the Grand Dining Room, was converted into a bar set. A replica of the set is still on display in the lobby. A colonnade was constructed on the front lawn for the dancing scene. Also, one of the sleeping rooms was used for a hotel room scene.Other scenes were filmed nearby on the island. The scene where cars were lined alongside the roadway with their lights on was done on Riverview Drive. The old stables, currently used as the History Center, was utilized for the locker room and caddy scenes. The Jekyll Island Hotel on Jekyll Island was constructed in 1886 as a private club. Some of the famous guests from its past include J.P. Morgan, William Rockefeller, Joseph Pulitzer, the Vanderbilts, and Astors. The hotel was restored in 1986 and is a National Historic Landmark. It is now operating as a full service resort and offers such unique amenities as championship croquet. Midnight in The Garden of Good and Evil (1997) – Savannah Savannah: The Mercer House was used as the basis for Jim Williams (Kevin Spacey)’s residence. The rooms on the north side of the house, which include the first floor drawing room, the second floor ballroom, and a workshop type area in the basement, were used in the movie. The Armstrong House was featured as the meeting area where Sonny Sellers worked. The pub featured in the film is an actual bar in Savannah named Churchill’s, located on 9 Drayton St.. (912-232-8501). Mercer Square, Forsyth Park, and Bonneventure Cemetery were also used in the filming. The “Bird Girl” statue was originally located in Bonneventure Cemetery, but has since been moved to the Telfair Museum of Art. The statue was created in 1938 by Sylvia Shaw Judson and stands 50 inches tall. Also featured in the movie is the Federal Building and US Courthouse

Roadtrip (2000) – Athens (University of Georgia) Athens: Tom Green (a.k.a. Barry Manilow) guides a tour group through Ithaca University throughout this movie. Truth to be told, he is actually leading them through the beautiful North Campus of the University of Georgia, the oldest state-chartered university in the nation. Also shown in the movie is Georgia’s Sanford Stadium, the fifth largest on-campus stadium in the country, bearing 92,746 seats. Tours of campus are given on a regular basis originating from the visitors’ center in the Four Towers building on South Campus. Information: The University of Georgia Visitors Center
