Big Fish (2003) – Montgomery; Prattville; Tallassee; Wetumpka
Montgomery: At Huntingdon College, scenes were filmed in Flowers Hall, Miriam Jackson Home, the Delchamps Student Center, and on the campus grounds. Fish in a swimming pool were filmed as a stand-in for Alabama rivers.
Tallassee: The scene where Edward Bloom emerges from a burning house with a St. Bernard was filmed on James St. in the early part of 2003. Ewan McGregor performed his own stunt work in this scene.
Wetumpka: Various landmarks are recognizable such as the Bibb Graves Bridge spanning the Coosa River downtown, Company Street, Little Sam’s Café sign (visible during the getaway from the bank robbery), and the old Elmore County Courthouse located at 100 Commerce St. (depicted as the Ashton Courthouse). East Bridge St. and Court St. were the sites of the parade. The Bloom family home is seen by looking up from 402 East Bridge St. The Horizon Savings & Loan bank robbery was filmed at the Old First National Bank Building on Company St., across from Little Sam's Café. Karl the Giant’s cave was filmed behind 2171 Highway 229 in Tallassee at the Lower Boat Ramp on the banks of the Tallapoosa River. Capitol Heights Junior High School was utilized for many Ashton high school sports scenes. It is located at 206 Federal Drive in Montgomery. The town of Spectre was constructed on private land at Jackson Lake in Elmore County. This set was also used for the 2004 Horror Movie, “Dead Birds”.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) – Bay Minette, Mobile
Mobile: The Mobile Civic Center is the site of the major meeting of the world leaders. Richard Dreyfuss' chase of the UFOs goes right through the bankhead tunnel in downtown Mobile. The subdivision where Richard Dreyfuss and his family live in the movie, is located in West Mobile. The final scenes in the movie where the spaceships land, was filmed in an old airplane hanger in Brookley Field.
Under Siege (1992) – Mobile
Mobile: The USS Alabama Battleship museum in Mobile harbor was used as the USS Missouri.
